About Aikido

Aikido translates as Way of the Harmonious Spirit. It is a modern martial art that focuses on achieving self-improvement and insight through practice. It is a non-competitive art that is appropriate for practitioners of all ages.

Aikido is a defensive art that uses an attacker’s own size and force against them. As a result, Aikido is a highly effective form of self-defense that does not require great size or strength on the part of the practitioner. Aikido can be learned and practiced effectively by men and women of virtually any size or age.

Aikido develops both the mind and body. Training can improve mental focus, self-discipline, and self-confidence as well as enhancing physical coordination, balance, and fitness levels.

There are no competitions or “sparring” in Aikido. Instead, Aikido training is cooperative, with more advanced practitioners helping beginners learn techniques at a pace in line with the abilities of each trainee and their goals.
