Fellow students:

The next kyu test for both Ikazuchi Dojo and Aikido Doshinokai will be held at Ikazuchi Dojo on Saturday June 19th.

The schedule for this event is as follows:

-The dojo will open at 10:30AM.

-A class led by Matsuoka Sensei will begin at 11:00AM and will run until about 11:45 AM

-The tests will begin at 12:00PM and will run until everyone has tested.

Because of the testing, there will be no adult class at the regularly scheduled time (11am) on Saturday. Children are welcome to join the general class at 11AM, and children (if accompanied by parents) are welcome to observe the kyu test.

Please note that this test is for students testing for ranks of 3rd Kyu and above.

Guests are welcome to observe this event and all dojo students are welcome and encouraged to join the class and stay for the test.

Ikazuchi Dojo will be hosting a Kyu Test for 5th and 4th kyu ranks  on Saturday, July 10th.

This event will provide a focused venue for students to test for 5th and 4th kyu ranks. Josh Gold, along with the other dojo instructors will conduct the test.  Tests for 3rd kyu and up will be held by Matsuoka Sensei separately.

We encourage dojo students of all ranks to join this event. It will be an excellent learning experience and a great oppourtunity to support your fellow students.

There will be a short class led by Josh Gold from 11am-11:45am. The class will be followed by at 15 minute break, and the test will start at 12:00pm. Due to the limited scope of the test, we expect it to last no longer than 45 minutes.

As mentioned previously, all dojo students are encouraged to attend, and visitors are welcome to observe the event.

If you are testing, please be sure you have filled out and submitted a kyu test application by Wednesday July 7th. You can find a copy of the test application in the student section of our website, here. If you don’t recall the password for this section, please email Josh Gold.

Back by popular demand, we will be hosting another session of Wes’ self-defense instruction…

Description:

This 3 hour seminar will focus on applying the principles learned at Ikazuchi to self defense scenarios not typically covered in regular dojo training. Topics covered will include:

-Defenses against non-traditional attacks and grabs

-Defense against weapons (club, knife, handgun) using training / prop weapons

-Exploring the legal aspects of defending yourself

This seminar will not require intensive ukemi. Additionally, due to the focus of the seminar, Wes has requested that participants no not wear Gi tops but instead wear Gi bottoms / pants and a comfortable T-Shirt as it provides a better approximation of everyday clothes.

This two hour workshop will focus on applying basic Aikido principles to ground fighting scenarios.

This seminar requires that participants can comfortably perform basic ukemi. Advanced ukemi movements (breakfalls, etc.) are not required. However, participants are expected to have a high level of physical fitness. This session will involve intense physical activity.  Please contact Josh Gold if you are not sure if you meet the fitness requirements for this workshop.

Spectators are welcome to observe the workshop.

Ikazuchi Dojo is delighted to host Matsuoka Sensei’s New Year’s Eve practice again this year.

We will celebrate the New Year with a special, traditional training event and celebration. The event begins with a practice session led by Matsuoka Sensei that runs from 11:00pm-12:00am followed by a toast and celebration.

Friends and family are welcome to join us for the event. Our Dojo’s New Year’s Eve practices have a 20 year history. They’ve always been memorable and are an excellent way to begin the New Year on a healthy and positive note.

Also note that this test is for students of all ranks at Doshinokai Dojo, and students testing for 3rd kyu and above from Ikazuchi Dojo.
