Introduction to Aikido
Introduction to Aikido is a two-session series designed to provide new students with a solid
foundation for entering ongoing dojo classes. This two-class introduction will provide a basic
overview of Aikido concepts and history. Additionally, the series will cover proper stance,
basic hand movements and footwork, ukemi (proper falling), and Dojo rules and etiquette.
Prerequisites: None Beginning Aikido
Beginning Aikido focuses on building familiarity with a variety of techniques and the development
of Aikido basics. Classes place a heavy emphasis on refinement of proper ukemi, posture, footwork,
and hand movements.
Prerequisites:
- Introduction to Aikido or previous Aikido experience
- Yudansha may only attend if they are direct students of Matsuoka Sensei.
Intermediate Aikido
Intermediate classes emphasize further refinement of Aikido basics and ukemi as well as introducing
a variety of advanced techniques that can be applied against grabs, strikes, kicks, and other attacks.
Classes may include randori training, kokyu practice, or other concepts at the discretion of the Chief
Instructor.
Prerequisites:
- Students must be 3rd kyu or have 100 classes prior to attending the
Monday and Friday intermediate class.
- Students must be at least 5th
kyu to attend the Wednesday intermediate class.
- This class may also include high intensity ukemi (falling). Please attend
this class only if you are sufficiently comfortable with your ukemi skill.
Advanced Aikido
Advanced Aikido is a high intensity class focused on defenses from high-speed attacks,
multiple attacks, randori, kaeshiwaza, kokyu, or other
advanced concepts. Advanced class is held the first
and third Friday of each month.
Prerequisites:
- Students must hold at least
2nd kyu (brown belt) rank to attend the Advanced Aikido class.
Mixed Aikido
Mixed classes provide an opportunity for students of all levels to train together. The classes will
generally focus on concepts covered in beginning and intermediate classes.
Prerequisites:
- Introduction to Aikido or previous Aikido experience.
Children's Aikido
Ikazuchi dojo now offers aikido training for children. This program provides a positive, fun, engaging
educational environment in which boys and girls can learn the fundamentals of aikido.
Prerequisites:
- Student must be age 8-13 years.
- No previous martial arts experience is necessary.
Private Training
Private training provides a student the opportunity to train with an experienced
Aikido practitioner in a one on one environment.
Prerequisites:
- Ikazuchi Dojo membership.

Membership
Dojo membership allows students to participate in any of the standard classes for
which they are qualified to attend. Members may also train at the Dojo during any
of the open practice times listed on the current Ikazuchi Dojo schedule. Various
Dojo membership plans are available:
Adult Membership: $95/month, $75 enrollment fee
Student Membership: $75/month, $75 enrollment fee (for
full-time students only with valid student ID)
Child Membership: $70/month, $75 enrollment fee.
Annual Membership Discount: There is a 15% fee discount for
prepayment of one years tuition.
Family Member Discount: Additional members of a student's
immediate family may join the Dojo at 50% of the standard tuition rate. Enrollment
fees are waived for additional family members joining the Dojo.
Refer-a-Friend Discount: If you refer someone who registers,
enrolls, and pays for a first month, you receive a discount equivalent to the one months
tuition. See the Student Referral page for details.
Supplemental Courses:
Separate fees may be charged if a member wishes to attend any special seminars or
supplemental training courses offered by the Dojo. Courses requiring separate fees
will be clearly noted in the class schedule.
Visitors Mat Fee: Students from other Aikido dojos are welcome
to visit Ikazuchi Dojo. There is a $15 fee to join a class at Ikazuchi Dojo.
