Classes return to regular schedule on Monday January 2nd.

Ikazuchi Dojo is delighted to host Matsuoka Sensei’s New Year’s Eve practice again this year.

We will celebrate the New Year with a special, traditional training event and celebration. The event begins with a practice session led by Matsuoka Sensei that runs from 11:00pm-12:00am followed by a toast and celebration.

Friends and family are welcome to join us for the event. Our Dojo’s New Year’s Eve practices have a 20 year history. They’ve always been memorable and are an excellent way tobegin the New Year on a healthy and positive note.

Kyu Test: 5th-3rd Kyu, November 19th, 2011

Ikazuchi Dojo will be hosting a Kyu Test for 5th-3rd kyu ranks  on Saturday, November 19th.

We encourage dojo students of all ranks to join this event. It will be an excellent learning experience and a great oppourtunity to support your fellow students.

There will be a short class led by Josh Gold from 11am-11:45am. The class will be followed by at 15 minute break, and the test will start at 12:00pm. Due to the limited scope of the test, we expect it to last no longer than 45 minutes.

As mentioned previously, all dojo students are encouraged to attend, and visitors are welcome to observe the event.

Kyu Test: 2nd Kyu and above, December 17th, 2011

The next kyu test for 2nd Kyu and above (for both Ikazuchi Dojo and Aikido Doshinokai) will be held at Ikazuchi Dojo on Saturday December 17th.

The schedule for this event is as follows:

-The dojo will open at 10:30AM.

-A class led by Matsuoka Sensei will begin at 11:00AM and will run until about 11:45 AM

-The tests will begin at 12:00PM and will run until everyone has tested.

Please note that this test is for students testing for ranks of 2nd Kyu and above.

Guests are welcome to observe this event and all dojo students are welcome and encouraged to join the class and stay for the test.

However, we will be closed on Monday July 4th in observance of the holiday.  We will return to our regular schedule on Tuesday, July 5th.

The schedule for this event is as follows:

Because of the testing, there will be no adult class at the regularly scheduled time (11am) on Saturday. Children are welcome to join the general class at 11AM, and children (if accompanied by parents) are welcome to observe the kyu test.

Please note that this test is for students testing for ranks of 2nd Kyu and above.

Guests are welcome to observe this event and all dojo students are welcome and encouraged to join the class and stay for the test.

These classes will be intensive training sessions, scheduled every other month on Saturday afternoons. These sessions will run 3 hours, from 2-5pm. We believe this new format will allow a greater number of advanced practitioners to attend on a regular basis, and will provide a better environment for learning advanced concepts. Specific dates for advanced sessions in 2011 are as follows:

Advanced classes are open to senior students (brown belts and black belts) that are active dojo members at Ikazuchi Dojo or Doshinokai Dojo and / or are direct students of Matsuoka Sensei.

DOJO CLASS SCHEDULE CHANGES

• Wednesday 6:30pm: Matsuoka Sensei’s 6:30pm class on Wednesday will continue on as usual, but for clarity, is to be attended by students that are either 3rd kyu or above, or have attended over 100 classes. Students that don’t yet meet the requirements for this class are encouraged to attend Heinz Yu’s beginning Aikido class at 7:40pm, immediately following Sensei’s class on Wednesday.

• Friday Evening Class: Matsuoka Sensei’s Friday class will be shifted forward to run from 6:30-7:30pm instead of from 7:30-8:30pm. We hope the earlier schedule will make it more convenient for students to attend on a regular basis. As with the Wednesday class, participants are required to be 3rd kyu or above, or have over 100 classes.

• Advanced Class. We will be removing the Advanced Class from the schedule that is currently on the 1st and 3rd Friday’s of each month. We will be replacing it with intensive advanced training sessions that will be scheduled every other month on Saturday afternoons. These sessions will run 2-3 hours. We believe this new format will allow a greater number of advanced practitioners to attend on a regular basis, and will provide a better environment for learning advanced concepts. Specific dates for advanced sessions will be announced soon.

Ikazuchi Dojo is offering a women’s self-defense workshop based on the martial art of Aikido. Aikido is a modern, defensive martial art practiced in a cooperative learning environment. This class is led by Josh Gold (3rd dan) and Wes Watkins (2nd dan). The two have over 35 years combined martial arts experience.

No martial arts experience is required to attend this workshop.

Description:

This 3 hour workshop will allow women to:

-Learn to use self-defense strategies in everyday life to avoid potentially dangerous situations.

-Increase self-confidence and awareness.

-Learn to use an attacker’s strength against them; escape from a larger and stronger opponent.

What to bring: Please wear comfortable workout clothes that would be appropriate for yoga or a similar activity. No shoes are required for this class. Please remove all jewelry prior to the workshop.

Ikazuchi Dojo will be closed from Thursday, November 25th through Saturday November 27th in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Dojo classes will resume their normal schedule on Monday November 29th.
